JOB DESCRIPTION: NURSE PRACTITIONER
Description of Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner plans, organizes and directs care services and is experienced in nursing, with emphasis on infusion.

Scope of Supervision
Responsible for patient care in Ambulatory Infusion Care (AIC)
Responsibilities include the following:
1. Manages patient flow through the Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC).
2. Administers IV medicine in an ambulatory room environment.
3. Completes an initial assessment of patient.
4. Regularly re-evaluates patient for drug interactions.
5. Carries out the physician's orders as directed; clarifies orders
6. Uses health assessment data to determine nursing needs.
7. Follows current standard of clinical nursing practices with adaptations for delivering care in the AIC.
8. Gives clear and precise explanations to the patient.
9. Counsels the patient and family in meeting nursing and related needs.
10. Educates and instructs the patient, patient's family, or staff as required
11. Begins planning for discharge when treatment goals are being attained or when no longer attainable. Prepares the patient/PCG for discharge by clearly instructing them on the continuing treatment and health care behaviors that need to be followed after infusions have be discontinued
12. Maintains current knowledge and skills for documenting care meeting Regulatory and third party payer requirements. Prepares documentation and clinical/progress notes.
13. Reports all events/occurrences that pose an actual or potential risk to patients or Agency personnel and completes an Incident/Accident report as required by Agency policy when necessary
14. Participates in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.
15. Participate in the Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
16. Participate in Agency committee when requested.
17. Participate in in-service education programs provided by the Agency.
18. Report any misconduct, suspicious or unethical activities to the Compliance Officer.
19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Communication
1. Prepares clinical notes and updates the primary physician when necessary.
2. Communicates with the physician regarding the patient’s needs and reports any changes in the patient’s condition; obtains/receives physician’s orders as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, basic math skills; nursing skills.
2. Prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Able to lift, position or transfer patients. Able to lift supplies and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching. Visual acuity and hearing to perform required nursing skills.
3. Has excellent clinical judgment, knowledge of current nursing practices and observations.
Education and/or Experience:
1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Minimum of one-year experience in a clinical setting.
2. Current licensure in California and CPR certification.
3. Prefer two (2) years of nurse practitioner experience in an AIC.
4. Prefer one (1) year of supervisor or manager experience in an AIC
5. Experience with monoclonal antibody class of drugs, IVIG and other Specialty IV drug therapies.
6. Current CPR Certification
